The Bureau stated that among family household visited today, Huang in Shengang now lives with his 79-year old grandmother since his parents fled due to heavy debts but his grandmother was diagnosed of heart disease and cancer. They depend merely on social welfare assistance. Huang helps his grandmother bath, cook, do house chores and raise poultry and they rely heavily on the care and help of others. Young, a six-year old boy, is taken care of by his grandmother alone because his mother is now in prison. Doing farm chores, the grandmother does not have a stable income and they live under dire economic difficulties. Mother Young in Dajia quit her job last May due to injuries and her eldest daughter dropped out from university to take care of her. Her son in Grade 1 of Junior High School helps recycling at school to make some money for the family. Mother Young does not have any work income and after dropping out from university, her daughter is not eligible for government subsidies. Their finances are heavily affected.
The Taichung City Government organized the warm express assistance event and with the help of social workers, the disadvantaged applied for governmental subsidies and were provided with condolence amounts by them with connecting private charity resources. The event was started in 1992 and at the end of each year, funds were raised by private charity organizations and individuals and the Bureau helped to allocate the funds and materials. Until now, more than 6,000 households in need were assisted. The Bureau pointed out that based on the principle of openness and fairness, the Taichung City Government utilized the donated amounts to organize the Program. In addition to joint participation of the private sector to understand the real situations of those being helped, reference information was called for on the website. Appreciations go to the Buddhist Association of Taichung and its affiliated temple members, the Second Credit Cooperative Association of Taichung, Fu-Yu Foundation, Lin Lan Sheng Foundation, Credit Unit League of the Republic of China, Ya Xin Charity Foundation, Tenshine Sacred Origin Foundation, Dongshi Yiduo Foundation, Yin Tung Bi Hu Chen's Social Welfare Foundation, Grateful Social Welfare Foundation and CPA Association and passionate individuals for their continuous assistance each year to pass down love and care of the Program and to help more disadvantaged households.
