  Taichung City Government Honors 58 Social Workers for their Efforts
 
To celebrate Social Workers' Day on April 2nd, the Taichung City Government Social Affairs Bureau today (1st) held "the 2011 Award Ceremony for Outstanding Social Workers and Groups." Director General Peng Hui-Chan awarded 58 social workers and two institutions of work safety from both public and private sectors to thank them for their efforts to build the social safety network, connect various service sites and provide selfless and professional services for individuals, families and society.
Director General Peng said that under the theme of "Bring Ceaseless Love to the Society," awards of this year's ceremony included eight categories: work safety, lifelong achievement, special contribution, heritage, supervision excellence, new supervisors and outstanding social workers and new social workers. Hardworking and outstanding social workers and organizations were recognized in the ceremony to thank them for their long-term contribution and efforts with the aim to promote professional exchange and experience sharing among social welfare groups as well as convey the power of love via the participation of friends and family members to gain positive recognition and support.
According to the Bureau, this year's lifelong achievement award went to Ms. Hung Yueh-Hua who is now working for the Taichung Social Worker Association. Over the past 40 years, Ms. Hung has been continuously supporting disadvantaged families and the disabled. She accompanied family members of those who were injured in the 921 earthquake and helped them to heal physically and psychologically and to regain their passion for life.
Additionally, the award of new social workers went to Chang Chia-Chin who in the past four years continuously served hundreds of patients and families suffering burn and facial injuries by accompanying them to rehabilitate and heal or even face death. Chang thanked the Taichung City Government and Sunshine Social Welfare Foundation for the recognition and said that she would like to become "the firefly at the end of the tunnel" and continuously offer assistance to these families.
According to the Bureau, one of the serial Social Worker Day events, "the Social Work Photography Competition" now calls for entries starting from today and for more information, please visit the website ( https://contest.plus1today.tw/socialworker/way/content?id=1&v=369820&openExternalBrowser=1 ). The image videos of social work will be continuously uploaded to the fanpage of the Taichung City Social Affairs Bureau, "Love in Society in Warm Taichung." Through interviews with award winners and organizations, the public will get to know more about the professionalism and services of social workers as well as their contributions to society.
Office representatives of Legislator He Hsin-Chun, Councilmen, Zan Ling-Hsuan, Cheng Cheng-Hsien, Lo Ting-Wei, Huang Chien-Hou, He Min-Cheng, and Chen Wen-Cheng all attended the ceremony to show their appreciation and recognition towards efforts of social workers. (4/1*15)*Social Affairs Bureau
