Donation of Six Rehabilitation Buses through Cooperation of Soroptimist International and Other Charity Organizations

The former National Policy Advisor to the President, Madam Tsai Ling-Lan, at the Global Gala of Soroptimist International (SI) on October 2nd donated six rehabilitation buses to the Taichung City Government. Today (the 28th), the Director General of the Social Affairs Bureau, Peng Huai-Chen, thanked Madam Tsai and the private organizations for their donation that satisfies more of the transportation needs of the disabled.
The pre-donation press conference was held at the Taichung City Parliament today, At the conference, Director General of the Social Affairs Bureau, Peng, thanked the former National Policy advisor and the Founding Director of SI, Taiwan Region, Madam Tsai Ling-Lan, for her cooperation with the Chinese Women's Economic, Trade and Cultural Exchange Association, SI Cultural and Educational Foundation, and SI, Taiwan Region for donating the six rehabilitation buses to the Taichung Government.
Director General Peng pointed out that as of today, charity individuals and organizations have donated 33 rehabilitation vans to the Taichung City Government this year and Madam Tsai cooperated with private organizations which donated six of them, about 20%. SI has been devoted to promoting the rights of women and girls. Under the severe impact of the pandemic, it still works actively to promote social services and charity events. Director General Peng especially expressed thanks for the long-term contributions of private organizations such as SI.
Madam Tsai said that this year marks the 100th anniversary of SI and several social relief events were put on halt due to the pandemic. She, thus, decided to call for cooperation with various associations to donate the six rehabilitation buses to the Taichung City Government to promote social welfare and long-term care work in Taichung.
Soroptimist International (SI) was founded in 1921, an international non-governmental charity organization (INCO) officially recognized by the United Nations (UN) to send representatives to attended relevant international meetings. SI is devoted to improving the life and livelihood of women and girls. Up to now, SI has more than 68,000 members around the world in 121 countries. SI, Taiwan Region was set up in 1922 and now it has 41 branches and almost 2,000 club members in Taiwan.
