Deputy Mayor Yi-ying Lin said, there has been 7 woman welfare service centers formed in Taichung originally and located in Xitun, Nantun, Beitun, Fengyuang, East and Dajia District; in response to the advanced facilitation of the woman welfare in the rural area and the delivery of the service resources to the mountain town, the City Government has applied for the subsidy from the central government project of Forward Looking to obtain NT$5 million from the project and NT$1.25 million from the self-funding by Taichung City Government. With the budget, we’d like to use and upgrade the space of Honyuin Community in Dongshi to build up a good environment for women empowerment, welfare service and friendly children nurseries to encourage more women to involve in the social participation.
Deputy Mayor Lin appreciated the assistance of Tzushin Welfare Foundation on the center implementations; it’s expected to provide more diverse service items, including novice mother assistance, legal consultation, psychological counseling, empowerment program etc. to allow the women in mountain area to enjoy more comprehensive resources.
The officer of Social Affairs Bureau said, Taichung woman population is about 1.42 million of people which is somewhat higher than the population of men of 1.38 million of people. As the women population is growing, the demand of welfare service need to be diverse and expanded to everywhere. Social Affairs Bureau has invested a lot of resources on establishing women centers and enhancing the woman welfare service since 2007, it’s expected to train the vulnerable women to generate the energy for themselves and change their families later, then expand to the environment.
