Social Affairs Bureau Deputy Director General Kun-huang Chen attended the unveiling ceremony on behalf of the city hall, which also saw participation from 20 international regional directors from the Philippines, Malaysia, and Australia. The guests also visited INGO to appreciate the beauty of Guangfu Village’s cultural landscape and history.
According to the Social Affairs Bureau, Kiwanis International is a global volunteer society, and there are over 400 branches across 17 districts in the country, with a total of more than 16,000 members who are dedicated to serving children and the community, thus it is a force to be reckoned with in terms of people-to-people diplomacy for NGOs.
Social Affairs Bureau elaborated that the list of organizations with offices in INGO in Guangfu Village include: International NGO Research Center, Asia University, I.S.A.R Germany, BRH Bundesverband Rettungshunde e.V. from Germany, Taiwan Painting Talk Association, Foundation for Yunus Social Business, International College of Surgeons – Asia Pacific, Taiwan District of Kiwanis International, and Taichung City Search and Rescue Dog, Taichung City Government Fire Bureau.
Taiwan District of Kiwanis International President-Elect Chun-kuai Liu commented that after Kiwanis moved in, it will use Guangfu Village as the hub for reaching the international communities. Besides hosting routine domestic and overseas training of Kiwanis International, as well as conferences and children’s public welfare exchanges, it will strive to establish an Asia-Pacific region headquarters to provide administrative support, education, and training. By firming the bond with international NGOs, it is hoped that we will be able to see the world from Taichung.
