Taichung City Social Affairs Bureau held the Twin-City Forum on Gender Equality today (5th) at the Taichung City Hall on Taiwan Boulevard. The event was kicked off by Taichung City Deputy Mayor Yang, Social Affairs Bureau Director Yun-chieh Li, Commissioner of New Taipei City Social Welfare Department, Jin-li Zhang, Taichung City gender equality mascot Xiduo, and New Taipei City gender equality mascot Penguin.
According to Deputy Mayor Yang, Mayor Shiow-yen Lu perceives tremendous importance in gender equality, and the city hall has supported this policy wholeheartedly. Through the forum co-organized with New Taipei City, it is hoped that the experiences shared will be incorporated into the policies in order to boost the performance of gender equality promotion in Taichung, in turn transforming it into the most beautiful and blissful city. Social Affairs Bureau indicated that New Taipei City elected the penguin as the city gender equality mascot in 2016 due to its image as an affectionate father figure, and it was appointed as the New Taipei City Gender Equality CEO. Taichung also organized the Gender Equality Flower Fairy mascot design competition in 2017, culminating in the birth of Xiduo, who is currently responsible for advocating gender equality throughout Taichung.
Through the Twin-City Forum on Gender Equality, Taichung City and New Taipei City can facilitate bilateral dialogues on the topic of gender equality, thereby refining each other's innovative policies in this regard and incorporate the gender equality policy into every facet of life more effectively to create a gender-neutral environment.
