The third charity food bank in Taichung City held its grand opening at the Jiasing Social Welfare Building in Dali on October 4th, following the Fengyuan and Shalu food banks, and persisting in the spirit of not wasting food. It cares for the disadvantaged, and provides daily meals for those in urgent need via the city government’s purchases and donations from enthusiastic enterprises and the general public. Director-general Huai-Chen Peng of the Social Affairs Bureau indicated that there are 34 distribution stations in total set up in the various administrative districts around the city, those living in Taichung in need are welcome to hand in their applications.
The Social Affairs Bureau stated that there are currently three physical branches of charity food banks in Taichung City, including the Fengyuan Store, Shalu Store and Dali Store. There are 34 distribution stations in the various administrative districts around the city, distributing food packages on the last Saturday of every month, they provide daily meals to families with unemployment issues or misfortunes, or those in urgent need of food.
Director-general Peng stated that in addition to providing food to support the disadvantaged households, the Dali Store will also display the history of the charity food banks in Taichung City, along with the setup of the leftover food education communication space, hoping to promote the principles of not wasting food as well as cherishing things to help the poor.
He also showed appreciation for the PxMart Qing Xiang Charity Foundation for donating goods, including seaweed crisps, chicken mushroom soup cans and fish meat floss, as well as formulas needed by infants and macrobiotic whole-grain cereal appropriate for seniors. Volunteers from CHUAN LIAN Enterprise also provided professional opinions to assist in the shelving of products, ensuring the smooth operations of the food banks.
The Social Affairs Bureau indicated that those living in Taichung City in need may submit their applications to the local district office with the relevant documents, including the residential certificate and household registration data. At the opening ceremony today, in addition to the attendance of director-general Huai-Chen Peng of the Social Affairs Bureau, city councilors Tien-Sheng Li, Te-Yu Chen, Tsang-Yi Chang and Po-Hsing Su also participated to celebrate the food bank housewarming together with CEO Yi-Chun Chang of the PxMart Qing Xiang Charity Foundation, deputy director Kun-Huang Chen of the Social Affairs Bureau and the local neighborhood manager.
