In order to help new residents get used to living in Taiwan, Taichung City Social Affairs Bureau has not only established 25 new resident community service centers but also 4 new resident family service centers in mountain, coastal, central and urban areas. The centers are manned by professional social workers, featuring the first and only new resident diversity library in the country to promote the diverse cultural library and cultural inclusion services. Additionally, the New Resident Service Achievement Exhibition will be held at the Calligraphy Greenway on November 3. Social Affairs Bureau Director-General Peng Huai-chen invites new residents to make themselves at home at the new resident service centers.
According to Director-General Peng, the total new resident population in late August 2019 was 57,757, accounting for 2.05% of Taichung's total population. The city government has been dedicated to promoting various welfare services for new residents, hoping to cater to the diverse needs of new resident families through professional services. He encourages new residents to treat Taichung City as "their hometown".
The Social Affairs Bureau commented that in order to empower new residents, the city government has organized new resident empowerment courses for them, hoping to achieve the goal of one service center per district, help new residents to adapt to the new environment and look after them. Furthermore, in order to provide female new residents with more diverse economic productivity, the Emerging Girl Power Among New Residents – 2019 National Economic Forum will be conducted on November 22. The aim is to create a more diversified employment market for female new residents and embrace a new era of happiness together.
Today's event kicked off with an elegant Thai floating lantern dance performance followed by Indonesian, Spanish, and West Java traditional dances. They are complemented by exciting activities such as exotic gourmet stalls and exotic costume rental experiences, creating an exuberant vibe at the scene.
