According to Director-General Peng, the fact that the city government chooses to commend outstanding volunteer groups on Social Workers’ Day on April 2 makes the function an extremely meaningful one. This year's ceremony is inspired by the theme of "Heritage and Mission - Keep Going, Keep Moving Physically and Mentally" to present awards across 9 categories: Occupational Safety, Lifetime Achievement, Special Contributions, Continuation of Heritage, Exceptional Supervisor, Emerging Supervisor, Outstanding Social Worker, Emerging Social Worker and Most Popular. The awards aim to encourage the volunteers to lead by example and adapt to the changing times in order to assist the underprivileged people to grow.
In particular, Ms. Yu Yueh-Chu from the SFANG Mind Development Center received the Lifetime Achievement Award. She upholds the philosophy of “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime" to endow disadvantaged people with skills, in turn enabling them to learn to become self-sufficient and increase their opportunity of social participation.
SAB commented that besides the feedback from those that have received help, the social workers' motivation comes from the support of their families and friends. The video of today's commendation ceremony will be uploaded to SAB's Facebook fan page entitled "Love in Society – Friendly Taichung" (https://www.facebook.com/tccgsoc/) so that award recipients and their families who are unable to attend the function will be able to witness the momentous occasion. Free meal coupons were also provided as a token of appreciation for the diligent work of the award-winning individuals, institutions and organizations over the year.
