Jiaxing Public Daycare Celebrates One Month of Opening – Mayor Lu to Double the Number of Public Daycares

The population of the Dali District in Taichung City has risen, making it the 3rd largest district in Taichung. As the number of young families continues to increase, there has been a chronic lack of daycare centers. Over the year or so since her inauguration, Mayor Lu Shiow-Yen has established 2 daycares in Dali and Jiaxing. Today, Jiaxing Daycare celebrated its one month in operations and Mayor Lu was there to hand out red eggs to celebrate the occasion with the parents and their children. She said that more suitable locations will be scouted to double the number of daycares and provide the parents with the best daycare service.
Mayor Lu arrived in Dali District today to attend the one-month celebration of the Jiaxing Daycare and to understand the parents' daycare needs as well as the operating condition of the daycare. She also distributed red eggs and played games with the children to train their hand-eye coordination amid an amicable ambiance.
According to Mayor Lu, Dali District is an emerging district in Taichung, exhibiting rapid population growth. It is currently the 3rd largest district in Taichung with a fast-growing number of young families. When she assumed office as the mayor, there were no public daycares in Dali, but she managed to open 2 public daycares in a little over a year hoping to cater to the parents' public daycare needs. In the future, more suitable locations will be scouted to double the number of daycares.
Social Affairs Bureau (SAB) Director-General Peng Huai-Chen commended that in an attempt to advance the public daycare doubling program, public daycares operated by private contractors have been opened in Shalu, Fengyuan, Taiping, Qingshui, Pinglin, and Dali. Furthermore, 10 community public daycares have been established in the North District, East District and Wuqi District. The aim is to increase the number to 50 by 2022.
The SAB explained that the planning of Jiaxing Daycare focuses on safety, hence bright, warm colors have been applied to the environment, allowing the children to grow up happily and receive adequate care in the daily living space, exploration/learning/game areas and dining area. Parents with 8-year-old children commended the daycare and indicated that they chose Jiaxing Public Daycare for its comprehensive facilities and comfortable environment so that they can work with peace of mind.
The SAB elaborated that Jiaxing Public Daycare opens from 08:00 to 18:00 during weekdays and charges NT$7,000 per month. SAB also assists the parents to apply for daycare subsidies; for infants aged 0-2 registered in Taichung City, and if one of his/her parents or guardian is also registered in Taichung, they will be eligible to apply for the daycare. Only limited spots are available on a first-come-first-served basis.
Mayor Lu attended the one-month celebration at the public daycare and was accompanied by Director-General Peng. Other dignitaries including city councilors Lin Pi-Hsiu, Lin Te-Yu, Li Tien-Shen, Chang Tsang-I, Dali District Executive Cheng Cheng-Chung, Eden Social Welfare Foundation President Cheng Liang, Legislator Ho Hsin-Chun, and a representative from city councilor Su Po-Hsing's office all turned
