SAB Director-General Peng Huai-Chen commended that as the regulations on childcare subsidies are amended to widen their scope, regardless of the employment status of the parents, as long as they are looking after children under the age of 2 at home and are not collecting childcare subsidy, they will receive NT$2,500 per month, saving the trouble of the grandparents having to attend classes and receive training. After the implementation of the expanded childcare subsidy, the number of children benefitting has increased from 18,000 to 34,000 before the application deadline. In conjunction with the city government's Affordable Childcare Subsidy and Quasi-Public Subsidy, over 90% of families with children in Taichung City can now benefit from the government's support.
Director-General Peng emphasized that, originally, the childcare subsidy for children under the age of 2 required the submission of application documents to the district office located inside the area of the child's household registration in person or via mail. With the new online application function, parents no longer need to apply at the district office; instead, they can submit their subsidy application from the comfort of their own home and enjoy the convenient service anytime, anywhere.
According to the SAB, online applications for the Childcare Subsidy for Children Under the Age of 2 have begun, citizens are welcome to take advantage of the service (website: https://i-welfare.taichung.gov.tw).
