Social Affairs Bureau of the Taichung City Government Promotes Break Time for Family Members, Diverse and Temporary and Short-term Care for the Disadvantaged

Needs of family members of the Disadvantaged are attended to! The Social Affairs Bureau of the Taichung City Government utilizes the National Lottery Distribution Fund to promote temporary and short-term care services for the disadvantaged. When a family carer participates in a community support group event, a temporary care giver will be matched to come to the event site to offer the "community-based temporary care" with contents including assistance to meal feeding, easy body caring, temporary accompaniment and safe care. With the provision of diverse choices for family members, they are able to have the break time for relaxation and continue caring for their love ones.
Director General of the Social Affairs Bureau, Peng Huei-Chen said caring is a long journey and now the Taichung City Government has offered service resources by establishing five institutions and six home care units. If needed, family members can request temporary care givers for short-term care for the disadvantaged. At present, the "community-based temporary caring services" have been on trial and when attending carer trainings and stress relaxation group events, the Bureau will help to find temporary care givers. The assistance also motivates carers to participate in the relevant events.
According to the Social Affairs Bureau, the mother of Xiaomin has been caring for her daughter who suffered cerebrum injury since she was little, all year round without taking any rest. The Community Resource Center for the Disadvantaged invited her to attend a support group for female carers by utilizing the "community-based temporary caring services" and at the same time, the Bureau matched her with a professional care giver from the Lung Yen Lin Foundation to allow her and her daughter to participate in separate events.
According to the Social Affairs Bureau, carers for the disadvantaged can request for priority services including home cleaning, body caring and home nursing. Since the launch of the long-term care 2.0 in 2018, the disabled and the disadvantaged of all ages have been included in the services to give more support to their family members. Now diverse care services for family members of the disadvantaged are available and they are helped with the provision of temporary care services that link up home and institutionalized care in communities.
The Social Affairs Bureau said home based temporary and short-term care services include assistance to meal feeding, easy body caring, temporary accompaniment and safety caring. By the end of July this year, 126 disadvantaged friends and 1,644 services were offered. More service resources will be available. Residents of Taichung with the disadvantaged proof are eligible to apply for services without limitation of the Taichung household registration requirement.
