Social Affairs Bureau Provides Better Prevention and Control of the COVID-19 with Diverse Vaccine Support

Barrier free services are provided! The Epidemiological Investigation Assistance Platform of the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) has now opened registration for citizens at the age of 18 and older and coverage in Taichung has also steadily increased. To assist the disable to smoothly register for vaccination appointments, the Taichung City Social Affairs Bureau provided services including rehabilitation bus rides, personal assistance and sign language interpretation to help effectively prevent and control the pandemic.
Mr. Chen, a hearing impaired person, said after he confirmed his vaccination appointment, he applied for sign language interpretation services. A sign language interpreter was assigned to accompany him during the vaccination process and inform him all the necessary information about possible side effects and points of attention. He felt more assured.
According to the Social Affairs Bureau, sign language interpretation services are provided for those in need for medical visits, job interviews or necessary trips to the police station, court and large-scale public events. At present, four interpreters are on duty for vaccination appointments. If any hearing impaired citizen needs sign language interpretation or typing services, he/she shall apply for services from the Sign Language Center at 04-22211657 or Line ID, 0900186572. Additionally, after vaccination registration was opened for the fifth priority group, the Bureau matched personal assistants to accompany the disabled with the ability to live independently and at present, 30 of them were vaccinated. If the disabled requires transportation services, he/she can reserve for a rehabilitation bus ride to go to and return from the health institute or vaccination stop free of charge. About 400 disabled residents in Taichung took a rehabilitation ride, totaling 750 rides, for their vaccination appointments.
