Those working for day care and community services for the disabled were 96.8% vaccinated and when vaccination coverage of both social welfare service providers and recipients is calculated, it was as high as 90.6%, leading other cities and counties in Taiwan. The Bureau emphasized that vaccination is the ultimate solution to ease the pandemic and high vaccination coverage protects both workers and service recipients and improves the social welfare health network.
The Bureau explained that among 1,691 care givers at 178 infant care centers in Taichung, 1,431 were vaccinated with a vaccination coverage of 84.6%; at five welfare institutions and their affiliated day care centers for the seniors, 42 were fully vaccinated. Now vaccination coverage is higher than the 80% requested by the central government and the staff was vaccinated for more than 14 days and therefore, the Bureau advised social welfare institutions to follow guidance and checklists given by the central government to prepare operating spaces, manpower and weekly screening plans to apply for service provision by obtaining the permission of the Bureau.
Additionally, according to statistics conducted by the Social and Family Affairs Administration on July 12th. Among 920 social workers and educate givers at day care centers and community service centers for the disabled, 891 were vaccinated, reaching a coverage of 96.8%. When vaccination coverage of both social welfare service providers and recipients is calculated, it was as high as 90.6%, leading other cities and counties in Taiwan.
The Bureau stressed that because of prior surveys on willingness to accept the COVID-19 vaccination, the 5th priority group was able to receive shots at health stations, medical institutions or social welfare institutions immediately when vaccines becomes available. The Bureau also actively assisted the 5th priority group with disabilities by arranging rehabilitation buses, surveying willingness to accept vaccination and continuously updating name lists to ensure each disabled person in the 5th priority group is vaccinated.
