According to the Social Affairs Bureau, Director General Peng Hui-Zhen went to Taipei to make the presentation in person about the concerted effort of the Taichung City Government to promote gender equality and build a gender friendly city through big events. The "Gender Equality Environmental Evaluation Mechanism" was designed by the Social Affairs Bureau that converts concepts and relevant rules and regulations of gender equality into clear indicators to cover aspects of public toilets, breastfeeding rooms, transportation design, parking spaces, educational training and event planning. The mechanism was discussed, planned, reviewed and decided based on the consensus by the Taichung City Gender Equality Committee and Taichung is honored to receive the Innovative Awards for Gender Equality.
The Bureau pointed out that in addition to large events, all agencies of the Taichung City Government integrated gender equality concepts, building of the gender friendly environment, implementation of gender equality policies and measures into their professional services, for example, the "Evaluation of Gender Friendly Environment of Medical Institutions" of the Health Bureau, the "Evaluation of Gender Friendly Workplaces" of the Police Department, the "Evaluation of Gender Environment of Social Residential Units" of the Urban Development Bureau and the "Operating Principle that Requires One Third of the Seats from One Single Gender of the Taskforce Committees" to help Mayor Lu to realize its goal of gender equality and to help Taichung be innovative in the implementation of gender equality measures.
