Love and Support Relief Provided by the Taichung City Government to 125 Households

The Central Government in Taiwan announced the COVID relief package 4.0 provided to the disadvantaged, but some marginalized households and vulnerable families in great relief needs are not on the package list. The Taichung City Social Affairs Bureau, thus, launched the "Love and Support Relief Program" by teaming up with charitable and private organizations to provide 125 households impacted by the pandemic the relief amount of $4,500, resources of food bank, mooncakes made by disadvantaged individuals and four tickets per household to the Lihpao Resort. Today (the 19th) at the press conference, Director General of the Social Affairs Bureau, Peng Huai-Zhen, on behalf of those households, expressed gratitude for those who provided great help and support.
Director General Peng said relief materials including mooncakes made by the disadvantaged individuals collected this time came to the value of about NT$10,000 per household. The Bureau during the pandemic purchased products made by members from social and welfare organizations to help both vulnerable families and those in need. Especially, with four admission tickets to the Lihpao Resort per household, parent-child interaction and social participation are encouraged. Relief materials were expected to be distributed from the 25th. Special thanks go to TOPKEY Enterprise and TOPKEY Educational Foundation for their contribution of both financial supports and efforts to dispatch volunteers for material distribution. All relief materials were expected to be completely distributed in the early September.
According to the Bureau, vulnerable and disadvantaged families experienced life challenges and they were badly hit by the pandemic. They urgently need social support. The Bureau expressed gratitude for the love and support provided by 12 organizations including Hsieh Fu-Yu Construction Co., Ltd., TOPKEY Enterprise, M.D. Chang Lai Sheng-Ping, M. D. Wang Guo-An, Yamay International Development Co., Ltd. (the Lihpao Resort), Central Motor Co., Ltd. (TOYOTA), the Credit Unit League of the Republic of China, the Taichung City Daoming Credit Unit, the Taichung City Xitun Credit Unit, the Taichung City Tianqiao Credit Unit, the Taichung City Shuinan Credit Unit, the Taichung City Joseph Credit Unit in the difficult time.
The Bureau said the recipient, Huang, is now a fifth grader of elementary school; his mother passed away when he was two. Huang was raised by his grandparents and his uncle was the only person who earned money for the family. Their life was already difficult and recently, due to the pandemic, his uncle’s income was not stable. Their life thus became even more difficult. Social workers assisted them to receive relief materials and helped his grandmother to find a job. Huang’s father was encouraged to take care of him. Additionally, Huang’s grandmother cannot provide him learning assistance in math and science and social workers helped Huang to apply for tutoring assistance under the "Caring for the Vulnerable-Seedling Program" supported by the Taichung City Education Quality Assurance Association to motivate Huang and boost his confidence. Huang’s math performance was greatly improved.
The Bureau encouraged the public to report difficulties or families in need of help via the 1999 service hotline and contact community leaders. The Taichung City Government can help to solve problems and the Bureau utilized amounts and materials donated by various social sectors and launched the "Love and Support Relief Program" that has been carried out based on openness and fairness to understand actual situations of recipients by teaming up with private organizations. All relief information is posted on the official website after assistance is provided.
