It cultivates local women to serve as guides of the Jingtong Women's Road and discusses the phenomenon of wage inequality between males. In addition, the "unequal division of labor between women and men in the family and housework responsibilities" has also raised the public's awareness of gender equality.
In addition, "the first female carpenter in Daxi, Taoyuan for a hundred years" in the Daxi District Office tells the story of Yu-Huang Huang, a female carpenter in her forties. Daxi’s traditional woodcrafts are famous throughout Taiwan, but people have always regarded it as a conventional craft that only men can do. With the decline of the old shop, the "second generation of woodcraft workers" won't take over. As a result, female craftspeople are emerging to subvert gender stereotypes.
Ching-Chih Liao, Director of the Social Affairs Bureau, said that they will introduce gender equality plans that meet the characteristics of each district to encourage the district government offices to be more creative. Thus, each region will be able to represent Taichung City in next year’s "Innovation Award for Gender Equality", which is held every two years by the Executive Yuan . In particular, the Bureau has set up incentives to encourage district offices to promote more grounded gender equality measures close to people's lives.
"Gender is everywhere in life!" Director Liao said that people's lives are closely related and connected to the district offices. Therefore, the best way to promote gender equality is to take root at the local level and let the public feel it. Based on the six fundamental tools of gender mainstreaming, the Bureau can implement these creative solutions in policies such as social welfare, education, economy, and health security to make Taichung a happy, livable, and gender-friendly leading city.
