According to the Social Affairs Bureau, family care is long-term and year-round. Also, caregivers need to be taken care of. In the past, families employing foreign caregivers were not allowed to reuse temporary and short-term care services for the physically and mentally challenged due to regulations. However, recognizing the need for respite care, the government has since revised the rules. Families employing foreign caregivers are now eligible to apply for temporary care services for disabled individuals during their vacation periods, enabling their families to take a break.
The Social Affairs Bureau has stated that if the needs assessment does not approve short-term care services, individuals must first apply to the needs assessment center for a benefit re-examination. After home visits by social workers for needs assessment and approval, people can seek short-term care services at 14 short-term care service units, such as Taichung City Love Home, and inform the clients of their status and service needs. The social workers shall submit their home visits to the Social Bureau for review and approval, and the service unit will match the service personnel. For contact information on short-term care service units, please check the official website of the Social Affairs Bureau (https://www.society.taichung.gov.tw/461780/post) or contact the Persons with Disabilities Welfare Division of the Social Affairs Bureau of the Taichung City Government at 04-22289111 extension 37320.
