According to the Social Affairs Bureau, Mayor Shiow-Yen Lu has been consistently promoting the "public childcare doubling" plan since taking office. The aim is to allow providing more care for young children and reduce the burden on young people. The monthly fee for public childcare in Taichung is the lowest in the country. The monthly cost for public child care is NTD 7,000, and the subsidy is NTD 5,500. Therefore, parents only need to pay NTD 1,500 to make Taichung a happy childcare paradise.
The Social Affairs Bureau added that Taichung’s public childcare adopt a daycare system, and the care time is from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday to Friday, with a monthly fee of NTD 7,000, and assists parents to apply for childcare subsidies. For Infants and young children aged 0 to 2 who register in Taichung City and whose one parents or guardians register in Taichung City, vulnerable families have priority to receive care, and those whose comprehensive income tax rate in the latest year is less than 20% are eligible for receiving care, they can apply for registration. Each childcare center will conduct a public lottery based on the number of childcare recipients and their priority order. The bureau will announce the lottery result on the fan page of the public childcare Facebook and notify admitted parents to send their children to childcare.
