Qing Xiang Family Welfare Services CenterHeld Reunion Partyfor Single-parent Families

On January 31, 2015, the Qing Xiang Family Welfare Services Center held a Lunar-New-Year-Eve type of reunion party for 300 people from single-parent families at the E Ya Ji HK Style Restaurant (易牙居臻愛婚宴會館). Mayor Lin Chia- lung also joined the feast to give his best wishes to the single-parent families. He hopes everyone of us can show care to kids from single-parent families in a hope to help them grow up into adults with warm personality.

Mayor Lin donated some gifts for lucky draws, including prepaid cash cards containing NT$2000 each. He also personally drew the lottery numbers and gave out the prizes to the winners, making the atmosphere very joyful. Moreover, everyone in the party was given a red envelope for a happy new year to come.

Mayor Lin said, “As a mayor, I am very glad to have this reunion party with every one of you. Child rearing is a tough but happy task, especially for a single-parent family. I hope the community can give the single-parent families more attention, so that kids of single-parent families can grow up into adults with warm personality. I also take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy and prosperous new year.”

“Taichung City Government is promoting two welfare policies.” Mayor Lin continued,”First is the end-to-end daycare subsidy program for 0-6 year-old kids. This policy provides day-care subsidies and allowances to about 43,000 children aged under 6. Second is the free dentures to senior citizens aged 65 and above. There are about 900 dental clinics in Taichung City, and Taichung City Government has already signed contracts with more than 300 dental clinics. I hope this program can help our seniors to have a better and long-lived life. I also hope these two social welfare programs can give everyone a good year to come.”

A “thank-you” event was held in the party in which parents and their kids expressed gratitude toward each other. Attending the party were a number of guests, including city councilors Lai Jia-wei (賴佳微), Huang Kuo-sui (黃國書) and Liu Shi-chou (劉士州) and Director Lue Jen-der (呂建德) of Social Affairs Bureau.

The "Single-parent Family Happy Reunion" event has been held every year before the Lunar New Year's Eve since 2007. This year marks the 9th anniversary. The purpose of the event is to reward the single-parent families for their hard work in the past year, give them the sense of "home," and wish them a happy new year, said the Qing Xiang Family Welfare Services Center.
