I have also asked the Social Affairs Bureau and the Education Bureau to allocate more resources to take care of new immigrants and their children, because they may need to adapt themselves in the process. We should assist them in every aspect of life, including language, culture, schooling and work. I hope Taichung is a livable city for everyone, including the new immigrants.”
As there were also many kids participating in the event, Mayor Lin explained the originof Lantern Festival and how it was celebrated by carrying lanterns, guessing riddles, and eating dumplings. He even shared a story of how he had made lanterns out of milk cans in his childhood. He also gave out small lanterns to children attending the carnival.
In the celebration were also many other activities, including garden parties, balloon-stepping games, kangaroo jumping competitions, karaoke contests and others. It was believed that all the participants should have a fun time together.
