  Mayor Lin Thanks Everyone Making Taiwan Lantern Festival Successful
 
The 2015 Taiwan Lantern Festival comes to an end with a resounding success. It not only attracted a total of 13.75 million viewers but also created NT$12 billion of economic output. Taichung City Government held a thanksgiving tea party to thank those unsung heroes on March 18. Mayor Lin Chia-lung thanked all the participating units and enthusiastic volunteers for their support. “OurTaiwan Lantern Festival this year has set up a number of records and visitor satisfaction rating reaches 85%,” said Mayor Lin. Healso announced the "77 plan", aiming to attract to Taichung 21 million tourists a year.

The unsung heroes backing the 2015 Taiwan Lantern Festival included 5400 volunteers, 1400 police officers, and all our colleagues from units and agencies of Taichung City Government. A team of "green cavaliers” dispatched by the Environmental Protection Bureau rode electric motorbikes to pick up trash. On the average, they traveled 25 kilometers a day and cleaned up to 60 kg of garbage. Produced by the Taichung City Government, a short filmrecording the “drips and dips” of the Lantern Festival was played on the tea party, making the atmosphere very lively and warm.

Mayor Lin andDeputy Mayors Lin Ling-san (林陵三) and Pan Wen-zhong (潘文忠) all attended the tea party held at the Taichung City Hall on Taiwan Boulevard. They shook hands with every unsung hero to express their thanks. City Councilman Liu Shi-chou (劉士州) was also present to show his compliments.

Mayor Lin said, "I feel grateful to all of you, especially the volunteers. Your enthusiastic participation has made Taichung shine to the world through the Taiwan Lantern Festival. As someone says, it takes a whole year of hard work and a month of tension to make a good Lantern Festival.But we have also created a wonderful life-long memory as well. I would like to use this tea party to express my most sincere thanks to you because you are the most important force in any urban activities andbecauseyou, especially the volunteers, have made the Lantern Festival so successful and have turned Taichung into a city full of volunteer spirit.”

The Lantern Festival held in Taichung City has produced fruitful results, including the record-high 13.75 millionviewers, NT$ 12 billion economic output value, and 85% of satisfaction rating. Mayor Lin said, “Volunteers are unsung heroes. After this ordeal, I am more confident that we will make it a big success in the 2018 International Flower Expo and the 2019 EastAsian Youth Games, too.”
