Nepal Earthquake: MayorLin and Bureau Heads to Donate One-day Salary to Relief Fund

A magnitude 7.9 earthquake hit Nepal.It has so far killed more than 2,000 people. Mayor Lin said on the municipal meeting on April 27 that a special search and rescue team from the Fire Bureau has been ready to go to Nepal and is waiting for deployment by the central government. He also wishes to provide volunteer manpower and support for subsequent reconstruction of Nepal through such international non-profit organizations as the Red Cross and World Vision.

In addition, the city government has alsoset up a social relief fund account to accept donations from all sectors from now until one month later. All the money raised by this account will be transferred tothe central government’s disaster relief account or sent to Nepal through international non-profit organizations. Mayor Lin and the heads of bureaus and agencies in the city government will donate one-day salary to the social relief fund account in a hope to call formore people to make contributions.

Mayor Lin said, “When serious disaster happened in Taiwan, a lot of international aids rushed in. As a member country in this global village, it is time we reciprocate. We should put ourselves in other's shoes and feel their pain when seeing them suffering. The city government will actively raise funds and all kinds of medical and emergency supplies for Nepali people.”
