Lue Jen-der (呂建德), Director-general of Social Affairs Bureau said, “Life Link Emergency Rescue Services is a two-way communication device installed at home of the elderly living alone.Whenever in need, the elderly can press the device to call for help. Professional nurses are always online 24 hours a day throughout the year. They will also visit the elderly regularly to ensure their safety.”
“As of the end of April, there are about 2,500 elders living alone but only 1,112 of them are using this service,” added Director-general Lue, “We hope this outreach event can make more elders living alone to use the Life Link Emergency Rescue Services.”
Grandpa Qiu (邱爺爺) is a user of the Services. Living alone at a house on the steep and inaccessible hillside in Dongshi District, he has started to use the service since two years ago. “I do not have family and neighbors but this Service gives me a sense of safety.I must call the service center at the designated time every morning and every evening. In the evening of April 12, 2015, I did not feel so well and told the nurse on the other end of the line. They rushed to my house and helped me get medical care. The nurse has even come to the hospital to see me. The Social Affairs Bureau is even more intimate than my own children,” said Grandpa Qiu.
If you find any elder living alone, please call 1999 to inform the Social Affairs Bureau. We will send personnel to assess and install the communication device.
