Theme Park Activities to Support Childcare Policy

To raise public awareness of daycare resources, the Social Affairs Bureau of Taichung City Government held a theme park event to promote and support the childcare policy on September 20. Mayor Lin Chia-lung said that his childcare policies, including the "End-to-end Daycare Subsidy Program," are meant to not only reduce the child-caring burden of parents but also create job opportunities for daycare workers.

Mayor Lin said, “We have positioned Taichung City as Capital of Life. Thus, the daycare policy for children and the elderly is very important when we want to relieve the young couples from worry while they are at work. That is the reason why I have proposed the ‘End-to-end Daycare Subsidy Program’. Our budget for education and culture sectors will increase by NT$ 2.7 billion next year. Moreover, we will not only extend the library daily service hours but also add more space in the library for the parent-child activities. We will also set up more parent-child studios in each of our 29 administrative districts, so that parents can take their kids to have fun there after work. We also encourage the restaurants to increase parent-child space. I hope Taichung has better childcare-supporting environments.”

Social Affairs Bureau said that the theme this year is "Promotion of Daycare Quality," which covers such topics as daycare environmental safety, home fire safety, parent-child reading, early childhood development, and health promotion. To promote related childcare-supporting resources, 40 booths were set up to demonstrate the fruitful results of community nanny system and daycare services promotion. In addition, 155 daycare workers and team leaders of community nanny system were praised for their quality services, and 13 essay contest winners for the "Interactive Daycare Love Story" were awarded, too.

In the theme park activities, several performing troupes, such as the Small Dolphin Baby Troupe, the Community Nanny Theater, and the Candy Children's Theater, were singing, dancing and cheer-leading. Held were also such fun competitions as baby crawling, baby moving diapers, father wrapping diaper for his baby, parent-child painting, barrier-breaking games, and lucky drawing. Many parents and their kids attended the event.
