Taiwan Weily Lottery Winners Donate NT$290 Million

God of Wealth comes to Taichung! Taiwan Weily Lottery in April 2015 with a prize money of NT$ 3,003 million, the highest in lottery history, was sold out from "Jin Qian Gui" (金錢櫃) lottery bidding station in Wufeng District of Taichung City. Winners have generously donated NT$ 290 million to 16 organizations. It is expected to benefit more than 430,000 people. Among the 16 organizations, the Social Affairs Bureau is specified for a donation of NT$ 10 million, which was received by Mayor Lin Chia-lung on behalf of the city government on September 30. Mayor Lin hoped that the virtuous cycle would always go on and on.

On the morning of September 30, the Taichung City Government, the Taiwan Lottery Company and the China Trust Charity Foundation jointly held a press conference at the New Taichung City Hall to announce that the jackpot winners of Taiwan Weily Lottery donated NT$ 290 million from their prize money of NT$ 3,003 million to Taichung City Government and other 15 social welfare organizations. More than 430,000 people in the disadvantaged groups are expected to be benefited. Guests attending the press conference included Mayor Lin; Chen Kun-huang (陳坤皇), Deputy Director-general of Social Affairs Bureau; Hsueh Hsiang-chuan (薛香川), Chairman of Taiwan Lottery Company; Huang Zhi-yi (黃志宜), President of Taiwan Lottery Company; and representatives from recipient institutions. On behalf of the first prize winners of Taiwan Weily Lottery, Chairman Hsueh handed over the donation to the beneficiary institutions in the press conference.

Mayor Lin said, “60% of revenue from lottery sales is used to pay the jackpot winners, and almost 40% of the revenue is for the public good. Therefore, to buy lottery tickets is to do public service. It is even better, if the winners can donate part of their prize money for public good. Giving hope to people, the welfare lottery creates a win-win-win situation for the disadvantaged groups, the government, and public welfare institutions, allowing a ‘virtuous cycle’ to go on and on.

“Taichung City is a city full of love. The highest jackpot prize winners are from Taichung, and they have donated the highest donation amount in history. I feel deeply honored to accept the donation of NT$ 10 million on behalf of Social Affairs Bureau. The money will be used in 8 public welfare programs, such as the Disaster and Emergency Relief Program, the Food Bank’s Supply Refilling Program, and the Independent Life Coaching Program for the Homeless. All the programs will be carefully planned and executed by my city government teams, so that the use of the contributions will achieve maximum efficiency and people with physical and mental disabilities and persons from disadvantaged groups and/or families will receive more substantial care and counseling.”

“Taichung is a ‘paradise’!” said Chairman Hsueh. “The jackpot prize of NT$ 3,003 million from Taiwan Weily Lottery dated April 23, 2015 falls here in Taichung. All the 4 winners are Taichung citizens. They are colleagues of a private enterprise and have pooled their money to buy lottery tickets together for nearly five years.

“After learning that they have won the lottery, the four lucky guys decided to donate NT$ 290 million, the highest single donation amount in history,” added Chairman Hsueh. “They told me to donate NT$ 10 million to Social Affairs Bureau of Taichung City Government and the rest to other 15 social welfare institutions in a hope that the social welfare groups will use the donation to carry out their support programs to help disadvantaged groups and spread love to every corner of the city.”
