After leaving the hospital, the injured “A Lu (alias)” in the dust explosion accident at the Formosa Fun Coast Water Park had been immediately arranged for rehabilitation assessment at the rehabilitation center. During the time, he had suffered mood swings due to the need to get up early for rehabilitation and itching on scars; however, with the full assistance of social workers, therapists and family members, he could take up the rehabilitation training with other injured friends and worked positively to spend the day.
It has been 9 months since the dust explosion occurred at the Formosa Fun Coast. The injured left hospitals one after another. The course of treatment was long and lonely. Aside from the continuous physical restoration, psychological and home support also began to be involved. The Central District Burn Rehabilitation Center launched a number of support programs for individual cases and family members since January this year, including psychological rehabilitation services such as burn injury medical lectures and social adaptation support, medical lectures, social adaptation seminars, wound care lectures, traditional Chinese medicine seminars, psychological support groups, and so forth.
This January, the Social Affairs Bureau had also held the “See the Sun - Burn Prevention Community Advocacy Fair” with department stores and invited the injured friends from the dust explosion accident to dance for advocacy performance to display the results of rehabilitation. It also encouraged other wounded that as long as there were resources and support, they would be able to make it through this hard road to rehabilitation.
The Central District Burn Rehabilitation Center is located at 2F.-5, No. 168, Anhe Rd., Xitun Dist., Taichung City. It contains about 101 square feet of indoor floor area and applies a barrier-free design. Members of the Center’s professional team include social workers, psychologists, therapists, life servicemen, and so on. The injured are accompanied by professional social workers over the long term and received case management services.
Areas covered by the service include Taichung City, Changhua County, Nantou County, Miaoli County, and Yunlin County a total of 5 cities and counties. It provides users with different types of services according to different categories of service users’ requirements since the inauguration. In the future, traditional Chinese medicine regulation, cosmetics and beauty (image reconstruction), outdoor social adaptation, etc. will be also evaluated and implemented so that the individual case will be provided with humanized services.
“We expect that the individual case could come out of the shadow and into the sun!” The Social Affairs Bureau said that it will continuously seek financial aid from the Central Government for assistive devices to make services that match user needs.
