The Social Affairs Bureau of Taichung City Government held a multicultural promotion activity, “ASEAN Children’s Fun”, earlier today (4) at ASEAN Square to allow international migrants, new immigrants, and local residents to understand more about the cultures in Southeast Asian countries. It is hoped that new immigrants and international migrants can have a quality meeting place in Taichung and allow residents to learn more about foreign cultures in order to build up a multicultural and consensual environment in AESAN Square, attempting to create Taichung into a livable city.

Today, in addition to the performance of taiko to welcome guests, there were also performances of ukulele, traditional Bali dance of Indonesia, and more exotic shows by children of new immigrants. It attracted friends of various ages to come and enjoy themselves.

When the activity began, the Deputy Director Chen Chung-liang of the Social Affairs Bureau and the partners from the bases and centers of new immigrants and volunteers gathered, they hailed, “We are one family!” And they greeted each other “How are you?” to people in four languages. Later, a certificate of gratitude was presented to Rotary Club of Taichung Chung Shin District 3460 in order to express thanks for their donation of NT$50,000 to the Social Affairs Bureau to support the Minorities Children Cultivation and Development Project promoted by Taichung City Government.

Deputy Director Chen Chung-liang of the Social Affairs Bureau expressed that by the end of June this year, there had been 53847 new immigrants in Taichung, ranking the 5th in Taiwan. And it has been one of Mayor Lin Chia-lung’s administrative goals to construct Taichung into a new immigrant friendly city. In addition to the establishment of multicultural libraries for new immigrants, there are 4 new immigrant family centers and 15 bases to help new immigrants blend into the daily life in local communities so that they can obtain help in the communities in the neighborhood. In addition, they can also support each other to help them live better in Taichung City.

The Social Affairs Bureau expressed that there were 14 stalls of foreign toys, children’s books, and more. With childhood as the issue and theme, the sponsor has arranged theme tournaments, including children’s songs of Indonesian, Thailand, Vietnam, and other Southeast Asian countries, grocery tournament, and more for the excitement of all. The venue was lively and happy.
