Celebration of the International Women’s Day by 8 Women Centers in Taichung Deputy Mayor Yang praised the “Best Show-off of Female Competence”

It is about the time of the International Women’s Day. Eight women centers in Taichung jointly held the “Women + Better Self-Cultivation” event on March 3 to celebrate Women’s Day. This event was highlighted by a fair filled with stands organized by the career women of the centers. There were popular dancing and saxophone playing. Friendly shops, DIY workshops, and sharing of true stories helped to attract the public. Deputy Mayor Yang Chong-Ying was also present and expressed her greetings. She praised those career ladies for their courage to start up a business in the company of the women centers and be their own bosses. They have improved their livelihood and their families. This really is the “Best Show-off of Female Competence!”

According to Deputy Mayor Yang, Taichung has a population of about 2.8 million people of whom females surpass the number of males by 40,000. The effort of the females will be indispensable in turning Taichung into a city of well-being. The city has advocated the rights and privileges of women and sexual equality in employment for long time. In addition, the city has spared no effort to help the disadvantaged females so that they could stand on their own and achieve economic independence. At the eve of the International Women’s Day, she wished all female friends a happy Women’s Day!

According to Deputy Director Chen Chung-Liang of the Bureau of Social Affairs, there are 8 women welfare and service centers in Taichung to provide benefits and legal counselling, psychological counselling, work projects, job skill training, advocacy for women’s rights and related services. They also help the women to participate in job training programs so that they could demonstrate their potential and achieve the goal of self-help and of helping one another.

According to the Bureau of Social Affairs, 30 Zhang Li Women Centers have conducted a survey via the Internet and discovered that “Health power” (35.9%) is the most preferred by the females of Taichung, followed by “wisdom power” (15.1%), and “mobility power” (13.7%). Most women tended to neglect themselves and be preoccupied in taking care of their families. The concept of self-cultivation is the theme of this event. Female friends are invited to nurture themselves and make their dreams come true.

An obvious example is the boss of the stand for selling cute cartoon buns in the fair, Xiao Cao (alias). She suffered from cancer that created economic hardship for the whole family. The women center helped Xiao Cao to show her strength in cooking and sell home-made dumplings and buns in the shape of cute cartoon figures over the Internet to help her family to improve their economic life. Xiao Cao shared her story in today’s event. She encouraged the disadvantaged females to get help from the centers and be courageous to start their new lives.
