Houkang Daycare Center, the first daycare center for disabled people in Houli and the 9th center of its kind in the city, was opened in Houli District, Taichung City on February 23. Besides daycare service, the center also provides individualized training for disabled people, endowing them with the ability to live independently, as well as interpersonal and social skills. The center can accommodate 15 disabled people at a time. According to Deputy Mayor Chiung-ying Yang, the city hall will continue collaborating with private organizations in order to increase daycare resources for disabled people and materialize localized care.

Social Affairs Bureau organized the Houkang Daycare Center Opening and Unveiling Ceremony today, which was attended by Deputy Mayor Yang, Legislator Tzu-yung Hung, City Councilors Pen-tien Chen and Chao-kun Wang; they were accompanied by Social Affairs Bureau Deputy Director General Kun-huang Chen and Houli District Executive Tung-i Lai. Disabled people at the center also staged an exciting performance to demonstrate their health and vivacity amid a cheerful atmosphere.
According to Social Affairs Bureau, Houkang Daycare Center is the first center of its kind to be opened after Mayor Shiow-yen Lu came into office, and he expressed his gratitude towards Kangjia Social Welfare Foundation and local Houli citizens for supporting services designed for disabled people. Their joint efforts have allowed disabled people to be taken care of in the community. Currently, the city hall has established 8 daycare centers in Shalu District, Central District, North District, Dali District, Waipu District, and Dajia District to serve 117 disabled people. After the 9th center was opened in Houli this year, the 10th center is slated for completion by the end of the year, therefore appeal is made to interested institutions and organization to file their applications as early as possible.

Social Affairs Bureau pointed out that Kangjia Social Welfare Foundation not only offers daycare service in Waipu but has also expanded its services to the new location in Houli this year.
