Public Welfare and Environmental Protection Endeavors – FHL Debuts Eco-friendly

Taichung City Faith, Hope, Love Intelligence Development Center (FHL) selects a painting by one of the students at the center to produce reusable tote bags to support public welfare. This year, the "Starry Sky" tote's design drew inspiration from the painting by the first FHL student to ever design a reusable tote bag, and the launch press conference was held on May 10 to showcase the achievements of the professional services provided for the people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Besides inspiring the students to demonstrate their talents, the event also hopes to garner the society's support and encourage donations.

FHL hosted the professional intellectual and developmental service achievement exhibition and "Starry Sky" tote unveiling press conference today. In addition to a runway show by students with intellectual and developmental disabilities, 9 different-themed tote bags from over the years were also exhibited to showcase the students' creativity and imaginations.

When attending the function, Taichung City Social Affairs Bureau Chief Secretary Tsung-hou Liao commented that FHL was the first officially registered institution for the disabled in Taichung County prior to the consolidation of Taichung. Opened in 1993, the center offers various professional services to meet the needs of the disabled persons and their families, receiving wide recognition among parents and the "Excellent Grade" for government evaluations. However, outstanding service needs to be supported by sufficient funding, hence an appeal is made to everyone to make donations and help persons with disabilities by taking action.

According to FHL, thanks to the recognition and support from Taichung City Hall, it now provides services to nearly 10,000 persons with disabilities. Nonetheless, professional services must be backed by adequate resources, therefore business philanthropist Phenom textile Co., Ltd. has donated several hundred reusable tote bags every year since 2010 for the last decade as the gift for the contributors. Over the years, FHL's reusable totes have embodied the paintings of different students, and this year, the painting by Xiao Jun - the first ever FHL student to design a reusable tote 10 years ago – is used as the inspiration for designing the extraordinarily meaningful "Starry Sky" tote.

The creative student Xiao Jun has been issued with a Category 1 Disability Card. Since he started receiving therapy in the early years, FHL has accompanied him throughout his journey to adulthood. As a child, he was inadequate at communication and interpersonal relationships due to autism, but thanks to the family support, skill training, and diverse cognitive development activities at FHL, coupled with his mother's support, he was able to discover his creative potential in painting. Today, he also presented his mother and painting teacher with handcrafted soap bouquets as a token of appreciation and to wish them a Happy Mother's Day.

The money raised during the event will be contributed to FHL's professional service fund, and NT$80,000 will be set aside as Xiao Jun's painting leaning fund. From now on, for donations of NT$1,000 or more made to FHL, you will receive a "Starry Sky" tote. Only 800 tote bags are available, while stocks last. If you would like to make a donation, please contact 04-25356240 (Giro Number: 21624500).
