Social Affairs Bureau hosted the Taichung Flora Expo Volunteer Commendation Ceremony and Concert today at National Chung Hsing University, where Mayor Lu presented certificates of appreciation to the volunteers. Other guests including Yun-Jie Lee, the director of Social Affairs Bureau, Tzu-Chan Tseng, the director of Health Bureau, Chin-Tsai Tseng, the director of Fire Bureau, and Shih-Wei Wu, the director of Civil Affairs Bureau also attend the function. The retrospective of flora expo was also screened at the event, creating a warm, lively atmosphere.
According to Mayor Lu, the flora expo is the most prominent event hosted by Taichung City in recent years, and it has received wide acclaim domestically and internationally during the 173-day period. An opinion poll suggests that more than 70% of the citizens are satisfied with the achievements of the flora expo.
Mayor Lu emphasized that the most crucial element of the flora expo's success is "people"; in addition to the preparation and construction efforts of city hall employees, the contributions of flora expo volunteers also played a vital part, and the city hall will never forget the endeavor and kindness of each volunteer. She wishes to express the sincerest respect and gratitude of the citizens and the city hall towards the volunteers and hopes that they will continue making contributions to the city together.
Social Affairs Bureau indicated that 388 flora expo volunteer teams, 307 volunteers with over 300 hours of service, and 12 partner organizations were invited to celebrate the monumental accomplishment in order to thank them for their dedication, commitment, knowledge, labor, experience, and time during the flora expo. Besides the commendation of volunteers, a renowned singer also performed classic folk songs for everyone to reminisce about the wonderful things that have taken place during the flora expo.
Social Affairs Bureau pointed out that at least 100,000 volunteers were involved during the 173-day flora expo, clocking more than 600,000 hours of service. During the flora expo, the ubiquitous presence of the volunteers could be seen throughout the Houli, Waipu, and Fengyuan Expo Site. Together, they overcame obstacles such as distance, weather, holidays or traffic to accomplish the flora expo's overwhelming success, thereby setting a new milestone for volunteer service in Taichung.
