Listen to the voice of the disabled people – Taichung City sponsors “Disabled Access Vision Salon”

The Taichung City Government endeavors to construct a friendly city. On the 7th, the Social Affairs Bureau sponsored the “Friendly Taichung – Disabled Access Vision Salon”, which invited representatives of disabled people to participate. The government was enthusiastic to listen to their voices as a references for the city governance. Deputy Mayor Yang Chiung-ying expressed that in the past, the city governance was done in a top-down manner. She hoped that by holding this salon talk, the government would have the opportunity to listen to the voices of disabled people to make Taichung a friendlier city.

The Social Affairs Bureau, sponsored the “Friendly Taichung – Disabled Access Vision Salon” today (7th), inviting representatives of disabled people that live independent lives successfully to participate in the meeting, including Huang Nai-hui, Yang Ching, Hsu Shih-huang, Chou Yu-ju, Yang Cheng-yu, Chang Chih-chen, and more. Chaired by Deputy Mayor Yang, the Director-General Li Yun-chieh of the Social Affairs Bureau also attended the salon to listen to the voices of the disabled people.

Deputy Mayor Yang expressed that in the past the policies for disabled people were done in a top-down manner, not satisfying their real needs. Therefore, Taichung City Government held the salon to listen to the disabled people’s real needs to reap multiple results. Likewise, Taichung will become a friendlier city.

Director-General Li said that disabled people may encounter difficulties in life, such as transportation, schooling, employment, and more. It is possible to understand their problems thoroughly in the discussions to find immediate solutions. For those that cannot be resolved immediately, Taichung City Government will convene an inter-departmental meeting to find solutions through coordination to provide disabled people the best services. In the future, they will hold similar salons again to listen to the voices of more disabled friends.
