According to the Taichung City Social Affairs Bureau (SAB) Director-General Peng Huai-Chen, Taichung City's caring concern centers provide services such as health promotion, catering, home visits and telephone calls that have proven to be very popular among local senior citizens. In light of the COVID-19 outbreak situation and the fact that most health-promotion activities take place inside closed indoor venues, in order to minimize the risk of proximity infection, all health-promoting courses and activities will be suspended.
Furthermore, the centralized dining approach will be replaced with lunchboxes so that senior citizens requiring food will be able to enjoy the lunchboxes at home. Meanwhile, telephone and home visits will continue to be carried out without interruption.
SAB pointed out that according to the epidemiology data released by the Centers for Disease Control, the COVID-19 virus can be spread through droplet infection at close range or by coming in direct/indirect contact with the patients' saliva, nasal secretions or other body fluids, thereby increasing the risks of infection. Since senior citizens above the age of 65 are considered high-risk groups of COVID-19, they should avoid participating in various activities. Consequently, SAB has implemented the highest-standard outbreak prevention measures to look after the health and safety of the senior citizens and volunteers.
