  Good News for the Senior Citizens of Taichung! Holders of Honorary Senior Citizen Cards now Eligible for Discounts at Participating Stores from 10/1 to the End of this Year
 
October was observed as the “Month to Respect and Honor the Elderly” by the Taichung City Government and more than 600 physical stores that offer services for dining, clothing, accommodation, transportation, learning and entertainment were recruited to participate in the Senior Citizen Friendly Program. From October 1st to December 31st, senior citizens of Taichung can present their Honored Senior Citizen Cards at those participating stores for discounts to encourage senior citizens to go out and take part in charity events for the prevention of health problems related to aging.
Director General of the Bureau of Social Affairs, Peng Huai-Chen, said about 400,000 senior citizens in Taichung City hold the Honored Senior Citizen Card that can be used for discounts when riding on a bus or taxi, visiting a doctor or going to a national sports center or sports park to continuously build Taichung into an age-friendly city.
According to the Social Welfare Bureau, this year, the Chong Yang Festival was in October and October was observed as the Elderly Month and from October 1st to December 31st, the elderly holding Honored Senior Citizen Card can go to over 600 designated stores including Great Tree Pharmacy, Black Bridge, Evergreen Laurel Hotel, Hotel National, Taitung 3C, Outdoorbase, Kbro Cinema and Wonderful Cinemas in Taichung to enjoy exclusive incentives. Additionally, the Taichung City Government also announced the initiative of more incentives from 50 points to now 85 points offered for each taxi ride of the elderly with the Honorary Senior Citizen’s Card. This initiative will be sent to the Taichung City Council for approval and it is expected to be started next year to encourage the elderly to go out more often for optimum health.
A vigorous drum performance presented by the elderly members of the Taiwan Grain Industry Association kicked off today’s promotion press conference and attendees include Councilmen Chang Ching-Fen and Chen Ben-Tian, Director of Fengyuan District, Hong Feng-Ming, Director of Fuchung Community, Chen Li-Feng, Director of Wongshe Community, Wu An-Hsiou, Director of Qiencun Community, Lin Lung-Yuan Director of Zhongshan Community, Lin Jung-Yi, and Secretary of Councilman Wang Chou-Kun Office, Tseng Chang-Fu.
